As a Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP) plan approver, the forest management plans created can help you reduce your taxes on your forested lands, while clarifying your objectives and keeping your woodlot healthy and vigorous.
The MFTIP program has been in place since 1997 and I have developed over 100 plans. These plans allow the landowner to become more aware of their property and the values they have on a small and large scale. |
Supervision of a logging operation is essential to ensure good utilization, and minimal damage while giving the best value for the landowner. Harvest inspections are done on a weekly basis to ensure best management practices are followed. These inspections also review proper felling techniques by logging contractor while ensuring sensitive values are protected.
Contracts are signed by the logger and landowner with proof of liability insurance and Workplace Safety Inspection Board (WSIB) clearance certificates. |
Scott is able to provide inventories of forest or wildlife areas which can be used for environmental and other assessments . Forest management plans are developed using field data, incorporating good silvicultural practices, as well as integrating landlowners' objectives. A plan can be geared to income potential, wildlife, recreation or other specific interests. After a detailed prescription of the forest is developed, utilizing vegetation and wildlife surveys, a 10 year silvicultural plan is developed specifically suited to the woodlot. This plan could include; creating wildlife habitat areas, timber harvesting opportunities or any other objective of the land owner.
Specific treatments are refined with steps to achieve the objectives. The processes involved can include tree planting to increase forest cover or reducing invasive species. Treatments may include tree harvesting on a sustainable basis with free to grow status an acceptable target. |
The forest will be cruised and the data obtained will be used to develop and write a prescription. This prescription will be used to determine exactly how many and what kind of trees will be marked for removal. Wildlife values, species diversity, stand structure are key factors in prescription development.
Landowner objectives as well as species at risk will also be an integral part of the prescription. Tree marking will be at eye level with additional stump marks to verify that only the trees marked will be harvested. |
